- MIRROR, MIRROR ON THE WALL… -

After two long years…Summer 2014, Gulf of Baratti. Beautiful sea, quiet beach (in June) ... and rich of resources! Many branches and twigs of various sizes and dimensions are scattered on the beach by winter storms. These pieces of wood are bleached and polished by the action of the sea, the sun and the time and I like it very much! You can find this beautiful and unique (for me!) resource on any beach, unfortunately often mixed with objects of different nature !! So to pass the time, I have collected many pieces of twigs. I had already in my mind, my next project, a frame for a mirror. I opted for the classic rectangular shape, but frames of this type have a nice aesthetic effect oval or round shape too. It's just a matter of taste!

Materials

• A sheet of plywood (my approximately 350x300 mm)

• Twigs of various sizes and dimensions, about 40-50 pieces

• Vinyl glue and hot glue

• A mirror

Process

• I tried to realize the frame just placing one on the other the various pieces of wood available. So I could also determine the size of the frame and consequently the mirror.

• After drawing the dimensions on the sheet of plywood, I made a buttonhole for mirror using a fretsaw.

• So I started to assembly the frame gluing with hot glue the twigs on it and each other.

• At the end of assembly, working on the back of the frame, I reinforced the structure with vinyl glue combining twigs between them and the backdrop.

• You can add to your the realization others details such as shells, stones ect. In my case I glued some minnows made by an artisan of Florence.

• You can use the frame for photos, pictures,…and why not, with nothing!

Here are some photos of the process
